IFGS BOARD MEETING MINUTES
5/17/17 – Final
Including New Playtest Rules and new Bluebook. Central Oklahoma Provisional Chapter asks to close. A new NPC position is created, Associate Producer, who is eligible for Milestone Awards.
The 5/17/17 Society Board Meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. Eastern Time. Present were Board Members John Jones, Olan Knight, Pat McGehearty, Brad Evenson, David Spence and Hugh Greene. Sarah Gibson arrived late. Melanie Greene and Michelle Cahill from N. Alabama Chapter were present. Bret Halford from Denver/Boulder Chapter tried to connect, but was unable to after a number of tries. Janice Gott Society Clerk also attended.
STANDING BUSINESS:
MINUTES: MOTION: To approve the minutes of the 4/19/17 Board Meeting (by acclaim).
FRC REPORT: The March Rules Release (7.1 playtest), is ready for playtesting. It will stay out until September or October when the results of playtesting will be analyzed. Fighters have been tentatively approved, and will soon be added. Thieves and Druids are still under construction, and are still intended to be added to the playtest. During the playtest period, PC characters will be able to play the various specializations without committing their character to that path, and PC characters may temporarily switch to the new Bard class for playtesting. In fact, PCs are encouraged to try the new specializations out and comment on them to the FRC (frc@ifgs.org). Also note that no magic item using new abilities may be created during the playtest period.
SSC REPORT: Jones and the SSC have sent out a proposed revision of the Bluebook, for approval by the Board. The changes address enhancement bonus pricing to weapons and armor. It also specifies that two languages are allowed per character for free, but each additional language known will cost 500 GP. It also addresses the cap on resale prices, previously a flat 10,000 GP, to adjust for the possibility of trading in the higher priced enhanced items.
MOTION: To approve the Bluebook Version 2.13 with recommended formatting changes (Knight, Evenson, 5-1-0, Spence nay until he has the chance to read it).
REGISTRY: Nothing to report.
TECH COMMITTEE: Robert Armbruster has been out of town, and will be available to meet with the Tech Committee in about two weeks, in June. Bret Paul wants to transition out of his position on the committee in May. The Board will try to get these two very important people together, or John Jones will act as a temporary go-between. Bret Paul has continued maintenance on the IFGS website. He asked the Board if the current forum content should be migrated to a new forum if one is selected. The Board did not know how hard that would be. While there is some inconsequential stuff on the forum, there is also a lot of discussion information that the Board would think is important to keep, although that could be archived separately.
Sarah Gibson arrived.
GENERAL PROMOTIONS: No activity from the committee. Northern Alabama Chapter has developed a relief IFGS logo item to attach to a lanyard that can be “printed,” and intends to give them out as rewards at an upcoming recruitment event.
CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW TASK FORCE: No activity.
CHAPTER LIAISON UPDATES: Central Oklahoma Chapter has decided to close. Treasury needs to follow up with them about whether they closed out their old checking account. Their status is inactive until they wrap up their treasury. Dallas is running games. Denver/Boulder Chapter has been talking about running games this year, but nothing scheduled yet.
CONTINUING BUSINESS
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER DISSOLUTION: No action.
SCIFI RULES COMMITTEE: No report.
NUMBER OF PRODUCERS ALLOWED PER GAME: Spence asked that the Registry Committee revisit the limitation on number of producers allowed per game for the purposes of Milestone Awards. Knight notes that from a legal point of view, one person has to have the main responsibility. Perhaps Producers and Associate Producers could both get credit for the purposes of Milestone Awards, without changing CAP awards.
MOTION: The Milestone Award policy will be updated to include an optional game position with the title “Associate Producer”. The Associate Producer is designated by the Game Producer and handles multiple production tasks throughout the game, as delegated to them by the Game Producer. The Associate Producer receives Milestone credit as a producer for the game. Only one Associate Producer may be designated per game (Evenson, Spence, 7-0-0).
NEW BUSINESS
NEXT MEETING: The next IFGS Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 14th. Times for the meeting are 6 pm Pacific, 7 pm MST, 8 pm CST, and 9 pm EST. The meeting will be held on Skype at i_f_g_s or 720.259.1667. The meeting was adjourned at 9:44 pm EST.
